Chromebook Quick Start

This is enough to get you started. For help, see Google’s Chromebook Help Page or talk to a Department Head!

Chromebooks give patrons access to unfiltered internet. The Chromebooks have just the internet; no games or apps. Websites likes has great games kids can play. You can find more suggestions for fun websites HERE.

If the homescreen is up, patrons should choose “browse as a guest” on the lower left corer to browse the internet.

There are volume controls on the headphones (spare headphones are located under the children’s desk) and on the keyboard.

Powerwashing a Chromebook is a total reset of the device. It’ll solve most issues. Powerwashing is also important because it’ll clear anyone’s personal information that they might have left on the Chromebook. Is you see a screen like the one below, it means someone has logged into the Chromebook and you should Powerwash the device. To Powerwash, you need to be on the homescreen. To get to the homescreen, click “Guest” in the lower left corner. Then click “exit guest” and you should get to a screen that looks like either the picture above or the first picture in this guide.

When you’re on the homescreen,  press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r. Click Restart. In the box that appears, click Powerwash and then Continue. Follow the steps that appear, make sure you select “Sudbury” wifi.

If a Chromebook isn’t working make sure it is plugged in, that the cord works, and that it is turned on (power button is next to the volume button on the keyboard). There’s not too much that can go wrong with a Chromebook!
